JOB SUMMARY

UW Health Northern Illinois invites students to participate in the Professional Student Nurse Intern Program to gain unparalleled experience and confidence for their professional career in nursing. The Student Nurse position allows current nursing students the opportunity to deliver entry level professional patient care, while continuing to develop and enhance clinical skills, knowledge and abilities.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES


Under the direction of an RN contributes to the formulation, implementation and evaluation of a plan of nursing care. Provides care and education incorporating age-specific, cultural and spiritual needs of the patient and significant other into the plan of care.

 

In collaboration with members of the multidisciplinary team participates in nursing care conferences.

 

Assists in maintaining a therapeutic environment establishing appropriate relationships with patients, visitors and staff and promoting safety and infection control procedures.

 

Assists the RN with general nursing care on selected patients following established protocols.

 

Accurately documents pertinent observations of patient’s condition and care in the medical record, maintaining confidentiality of position acquired information.

 

Performs all aspects of care in an environment that optimizes patient and environmental safety and in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and compliance efforts.

 


As needed, additional responsibilities reasonably within the scope of duties and physical requirements may be assigned.  ALL DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS MUST BE PERFORMED CONSISTENT WITH THE UW HEALTH PERFORMANCE STANDARDS AND RESPECT FOR PEOPLE COMMITTMENTS.
