JOB SUMMARY

Prepares and instructs patients for all types of worksite wellness specimen collection, including venous or capillary blood and urine specimens.  Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and educational experiences in support of departmental philosophy and objectives, as well as Health System initiatives.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES


Prepares and instructs patients for all types of worksite wellness specimen collection, including venous or capillary blood and urine specimens. Utilizes age appropriate collection techniques.

 

Performs venipuncture or capillary to obtain blood specimens from patients following established protocols. Adheres to system policy regarding patient and specimen identification and infection prevention.

 

Participates in phlebotomy skills validation process and may provide back-up phlebotomy functions for other health system departments.

 

Replenishes supplies and equipment and maintains an appropriately stocked environment within established budgetary parameters.

 

Prepares and processes specimens utilizing appropriate equipment and following established procedures for specimen handling. Manages all specimens that are sent to outside laboratories, including data entry and appropriate specimen packaging.

 

Performs waived laboratory testing according to written policy and procedure.

 

Responds to internal and external customer requests or complaints ensuring prompt resolution and satisfaction. Performs all aspects of care in an environment that optimizes patient and environmental safety and in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and compliance efforts.

 

Attends and represents BLW at community or business health fairs.

 

Provides backup support for reception or clerical tasks at BetterLife Wellness, as assigned by Manager.

 


As needed, additional responsibilities reasonably within the scope of duties and physical requirements may be assigned.  ALL DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS MUST BE PERFORMED CONSISTENT WITH THE UW HEALTH PERFORMANCE STANDARDS AND RESPECT FOR PEOPLE COMMITTMENTS.

Successful completion of annual clinical, age and job specific competencies and skill verification tools required.

 

Ability to communicate clearly and calmly in English both verbally and in writing with patients, medical staff and the public.

 

Have basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel software.

 

Be familiar with computer.
