JOB SUMMARY

Performs PET procedures and produces images for interpretation by and ad the direction of a physician or licensed practitioner utilizing radionuclies.  Provides appropriate patient care and exercises professional judgment ensuring successfully completion of procedure.  Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and educational experiences in support of departmental philosophy and objectives, as well as, Health System initiatives.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES


Greets patients and explains procedures answering any questions or minimizing fears regarding procedure or radiation exposure and provides education to obtain desired results and gain cooperation. Collaboratively works with scheduling to coordinate examination or procedures.

 

Properly positions and provides appropriate protection for patients following established procedures and respecting patient ability and comfort. Selects and operates radiation detection, imaging and associated equipment to successfully perform procedure following state statute(s) and institutional policy.

 

Prepares, calculates, identifies and administer radiopharmaceuticals and/or medications as prescribed by a licensed practitioner following stat statue(s) and institutional policy.

Includes accessing and de-accessing an implanted vascular port. This includes, but is not limited to, the verification of port type(i.e. power port for injection with use of a power injector).

 

Evaluates images and data for technical quality assuring proper identification is recorded.

 

Provides clinical instruction and evaluation for students or other health care professionals as required.

 

Monitors supplies and equipment and performs quality control checks reporting malfunctions to proper resource and maintaining records in compliance with state and regulatory requirements. Participates in regulatory inspections assuring that department requirements are met and deficiencies are corrected.

 

Utilizes multiple computer systems to maintain patient financial and demographic information. Maintains confidentiality of position acquired information. Archives image data.

 

Performs all aspects of care in an environment that optimizes patient and environmental safety and in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and compliance efforts.

 


As needed, additional responsibilities reasonably within the scope of duties and physical requirements may be assigned.  ALL DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS MUST BE PERFORMED CONSISTENT WITH THE UW HEALTH PERFORMANCE STANDARDS AND RESPECT FOR PEOPLE COMMITTMENTS.

Active nuclear medicine accreditation from the Illinois Emergency Management Agency-Division of Nuclear Safety and current certification and current registration or registry eligible form the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Successful completion of annual clinical, age and job specific competencies and skill verification tools required.

Ability to establish effective working relationships and clearly and calmly communicate in English both verbally and in writing with patients, medical staff and the public.

To be considered capable of performing a full or wide range of light work, you must have the ability to do substantially all of these activities.
