JOB SUMMARY

Performs an advanced level of sonography services for the woman experiencing a high-risk pregnancy.  Works in collaboration with the Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialists through the creation of diagnostic images and related procedures appropriate to the Maternal Fetal diagnosis or concern and the gestational age of the pregnancy.   Performs growth study and targeted ultrasound exams, doppler velocimetry, nuchal translucency exams, fetal heart studies, amniotic fluid index and biophysical profiles.  Is responsible for meeting the established practice standards for patient care for this specific population defined by AIUM and Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialists.

 

This position will provide support and coverage at both the hospital and Crusader locations, as assigned based on departmental needs.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES


Performs a variety of complex specialized tasks utilizing ultrasonic high frequency sound waves to detect abnormalities. Assist physician with procedures, including amniocentesis, after obtaining patient consent.

 

Greets patients, and collects and enters patient information and ultrasound order into appropriate systems. Prepares patients for procedures, explains procedure and answers questions in order to minimize fears. Report changes in patient condition. Provide an oral and written summary of preliminary findings. Evaluates quality of sonograms and determines if additional images are indicated.

 

Utilizes Client Server, Phoenix, and PACS systems to maintain demographic information, ultrasound orders, images and reports. Respecting confidentiality of position acquired information. Utilizes digital archiving.

 

Operates and maintains ultrasound equipment and associated devices to successfully perform procedure.

 

Orders supplies and performs equipment quality control checks reporting malfunction appropriately.

 

Performs all aspects of care in an environment that optimizes patient and environmental safety and in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and compliance efforts.

 


As needed, additional responsibilities reasonably within the scope of duties and physical requirements may be assigned.  ALL DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS MUST BE PERFORMED CONSISTENT WITH THE UW HEALTH PERFORMANCE STANDARDS AND RESPECT FOR PEOPLE COMMITTMENTS.

Ability to establish effective working relationships and clearly and calmly communicate in English both verbally and in writing with patients, medical staff and the public.
