JOB INFORMATION | Effective Date: | 7/1/2025 | Entity: | Illinois | Job Code: | NI-3102AC | Job Title: | NI-Technician, Sterile Processing | FLSA Exemption Status: | Non-Exempt | JOB SUMMARY | | | Under the direction of the SSA Manager, provides the Health System with processed instruments, materials, and equipment ensuring a quality product for patient care by executing established procedures for receiving, decontamination, assembly, packaging, and sterilization. After consulting Operating Room schedule and requisitions, assembles and sets up case carts for the Operating Room. Assists with monitoring peer performance and ensures department and hospital policies and procedures are maintained. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and educational experiences in support of departmental philosophy and objectives, as well as Health System initiatives. | | | | | | | | |
• | Assembles surgical case carts and dresses carts with linen packs, sterile supplies, instrumentation, solutions and other required supplies and sends completed carts to surgery according to established procedures. Monitors surgical schedule and communicates daily instrumentation issues to appropriate staff. | • | Restocks special trays following established policies and procedures and sends completed carts and/or trays to surgery or other areas maintaining specialty resources in a neat, clean, and organized manner, while communicating and/or documenting any set changes or new instrumentation. | • | Receives clean case carts in supply area, empties and puts away returned sterile supplies and equipment appropriately. | • | Examines surgical instrumentation for cleanliness, proper assembly, and proper performance. | • | Assembles instrument sets, ensuring that the correct number and type of instruments are present following established inventory sheets and placing the instruments appropriately to ensure sterility and ease of use by the end user. | • | Receives dirty case carts in decontamination room. Washes and disinfects instrumentation, patient equipment, and case carts according to hospital policies and procedures. | • | Differentiates between various packing materials and containers, selecting and assembling system appropriate items to be sterilized. Assembles instrument sets and special trays, while identifying specialty or department specific priorities according to established criteria. | • | Restocks and performs selected reports and transactions for all OR Omnicells. | • | All other duties as assigned. |
