JOB SUMMARY

Working closely with management to provide holistic, age and culturally appropriate expert nursing care education for staff caring for inpatients and outpatients. Utilizing clinical expertise in designated specialty, functions as a role model, researcher, and educator, ensuring quality patient care and outcomes. Time will be devoted among various aspects of job, depending on staff and unit needs. Participates in quality improvement activities and educational experiences in support of departmental and divisional nursing philosophy and objectives, as well as Health System initiatives. Will devote a dedicated percentage of time to working on the TMAH grant initiative.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES


Collects and assesses data and information related to education needs and other pertinent situations, including identification of trends. Collects supporting data to determine a comprehensive education program for assigned units/clinics including classroom, clinical experiences and learning technologies.

 

Assesses plans, develops implements and evaluates comprehensive education programs to meet the orientation and ongoing competency needs and professional development needs of the Nursing Department leadership staff, with specific focus for his/her units/clinics, which support the UW Health model of professional nursing practice.

 

Ensures programs meet the Department of Nursing and regulatory expectations and standards. Adheres to national education practice standards and stays abreast of and incorporates current research into education practice.

 

Provides consultation to enhance continuing education, professional development opportunities and mentorship opportunities.

 

Develops and delivers/coordinates other educational programs as directed (e.g., Grand Rounds, in services, continuing education, job-specific and specialty curricula) to support competence and professional growth of UW Health staff.

 

Develops curricula that is reflective of evidence-based practice and uses the appropriate methods of teaching to accommodate learning styles and the learning environment.

 

Plans, develops, and evaluates the preceptor program to enhance the orientation process and the retention of staff. Provides leadership to preceptors and serves as a role model through educational programs and ongoing coaching and mentoring.

 

Serves as a facilitator to nurse residents and actively mentors and supports their growth in the profession and clinical practice.

 

Provide education and regular scheduled simulations for skill competency for the Mother Baby, Labor and Delivery and 5north units.

 

Attends Women’s Health Quality Committee and will schedule and facilitate MM meetings as scheduled by APC.

 

Integrates relevant research outcomes into professional development practice through effective learning activities.

 

Evaluates outcomes of the educational programs and utilizes findings for continued improvement. Incorporates objective assessment of classroom and units/clinics/departments performance into evidence-based evaluation framework. Applies measurement instruments and statistical analysis, seeking consultation when needed.

 

Supports integration of research into practice and helps develop staff members’ knowledge and skills in the research process.

 

Supports the implementation of management decisions that affect nursing and patient care services practice within the Surgical Services Department. Plans educational programming for new or changing programs of care.

 

Provides guidance, resources and knowledge for professional growth of others.

 

Mentors colleagues other nurses, students and other as appropriate.

 

Participates in quality performance improvement activities.

 

Participates in strategic planning, ad hoc projects and educational activities as assigned for the department. Communicates effectively with colleagues across UW Health to advance goal achievement.

 

Attends leadership meetings (staff meetings, pediatric leadership meetings, appropriate strategic planning meetings, course planning meetings? As they pertain to the program, orientation staff development and mentoring responsibilities.

 

Responsible for reporting to licensing, certification, accreditation, and other regulatory bodies for educational program compliance.

 

Interacts with staff in an ethical, consistent, fair, timely, appropriate and decisive manner in accordance with organization-wide and Nursing Department policies.

 

Identifies factors that affect staff's ability to fulfill their job responsibilities, collaborates with management to effect appropriate change in systems.

 

Engages as an educator on a local, state, or national level to determine trends in adult education, practice and regulation.

 

Promotes and cultivates positive relationships with academic programs to foster positive image and relationships with
UW Health. Is accessible to and supportive of undergraduate and graduate nursing students and faculty from affiliating schools of nursing.

 

Consults with the community for program planning and implementation and evaluation in order to meet staff development and patient care needs.

 

Serves as member of city, regional and/or national educational advisory groups as needed.

 

Will develop, implement, and help to oversee the TMaH Model Program activities to ensure alignment with model goals and evidence based practices during the pre-implementation phases.

 

Will monitor progress, outcomes, and key performance indicators. Responsible for metrics and reporting requirements set by the Get Covered Illinois Team.

 

Will collaborate with HFS TMaH leadership team to participate in funder based calls, webinars, and other model related activities as required.

 

Engage and maintain relationships with the community stakeholders to collaborate and implement the TMaH model.

 

Will serve as an organizational champion for the project.
