JOB SUMMARY

Provides comprehensive substance abuse assessment and recommends disposition according to standardized level of care criteria.  Facilitates linkage with other community agencies.  Completes admission procedures for substance abuse programs that patients are referred to and assists with coordination of insurance benefits. Performs telephone triage functions for substance abuse assessments. Provides warm handoff for clients being transferred to substance abuse treatment. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and educational experiences in support of departmental philosophy and objectives, as well as Health System initiatives.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES


Conducts comprehensive substance assessment of patient and significant other(s) as indicated to determine appropriate level of care and/or disposition.

 

Screen participants using SBIRT screening tools, use the screening tools to determine the level of care, and provide Brief Intervention or refer participant to Brief Treatment or a more intensive level of care.

 

Provides appropriate referrals to community resources and monitors client compliance with agency recommendations.

 

Shares personal experience with addiction(s) and effectively empathize with patients in furtherance of therapeutic rapport.

 

Performs all aspects of care in an environment that optimizes patient and environmental safety in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and compliance efforts.

 

If Peer Recovery Specialist has CADC; Facilitates and provides group therapy on substance abuse resources.

 


As needed, additional responsibilities reasonably within the scope of duties and physical requirements may be assigned.  ALL DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS MUST BE PERFORMED CONSISTENT WITH THE UW HEALTH PERFORMANCE STANDARDS AND RESPECT FOR PEOPLE COMMITTMENTS.

Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) and/or Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS).  If not CPRS certified, SAH will provide training. CPRS or CADC must be obtained within twenty eight (28) months of hire.

LICENSE, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS MUST BE MAINTAINED PER UW HEALTH POLICY.

Ability to speak comfortably to groups for education and marketing purposes.

 

Effective interpersonal skills and ability to deal with all levels within the organization and community.

 

Strong organizational, time management and critical decision-making skills.

 

Good verbal and written communication skills. Working knowledge of the continuum of care.

 

Successful completion of annual clinical, age specific and job specific competencies and skills validation tools.

 

Should be drug-free for three (3) years.

 

No felony convictions for the past five (5) years.

 

No violent or predatory convictions.
