Functions as an information and education resource for the community and staff. Maintains standards of professional nursing practice. Documents complete and accurate patient information in compliance with Patient Services Department policy and other regulatory agency requirements. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities, nursing governance councils and educational experiences in support of departmental and divisional nursing philosophy and objectives, as well as, initiatives of the Health System and our Affiliates. Coordinates family involvement in assessment and treatment of the patient. | | | | | | | | |
• | Utilizes the nursing process to provide oncology nursing services and physiological support to patients and their caregivers under the direction of physician. Facilitates professional intervention as required. | • | Demonstrates critical thinking skills and exercises nursing judgement in evaluating and initiating emergency measures in emergent situations. | • | Administers therapeutic and diagnostic measures and procedures prescribed by the physician and observes and evaluates their effect on the patient. Assists physician with prescribed procedures including bone marrow biopsy and aspiration, paracentesis and therapeutic phlebotomy. | • | Coordinates Oncology services across the continuum of care, ensuring continuity and efficiency of nursing care and coordinates necessary referrals for Home Care and equipment, Hospice and Social Services. | • | Performs a variety of technical duties following established procedures including reconstituting and administering cytoxic drugs performing venipuncture or central access devices assuring proper dilution, rate of infusion and sequencing, monitoring patient’s vital signs and reporting adverse reactions. | • | Plans, implements and documents patient education and precautions for family members. | • | In collaboration with the Data Manager, maintains knowledge of clinical trials maintaining confidentiality of position-acquired information and following established guidelines ensuring careful collection of data. | • | Performs all aspects of care in an environment that optimizes patient and environmental safety and in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and compliance efforts. |
