JOB SUMMARY

Coordinates the clinical education of staff nurses including, orientation and continuing education programs related to the service specialty. Participants in quality improvement activities in support of departmental and divisional nursing philosophy and objective as well as health system initiatives.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES


In collaboration with Nurse Manager, assesses the educational needs of nursing staff for the defined patient population within the Shared Governance model. Develops and implements clinical orientation and evaluation program for new department staff members. Mentors nursing students.

 

Functions as a consultant and clinical resource in specialty Nursing area for colleagues and consumers of healthcare services and incorporates research findings into clinical practice. In collaboration with Nurse Manager identifies and resolves clinical problems.

 

Utilizes the nursing process to provide direct and indirect care for patients in assigned area and their family members, maintaining confidentiality of position acquired information. Communicates select patient’s progress to physician and other members of the multidisciplinary team.

 

Assists with the evaluation and planning for patient discharge needs for assigned patient population.

 

Assesses learning needs of patients and their families and provides necessary support and educational programs.

 

Participates in a variety of community health education programs as needed.

 

Performs all aspects of care in an environment that optimizes patient and environmental safety and in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and compliance efforts.
