Functioning in the intertwined roles of change agent, mentor, facilitator of learning, leader, champion of scientific inquiry, partner for practice transitions, and advocate for the NPD specialty, the NPD practitioner draws on adult learning theories, experience, knowledge, and evidence-based practice to transform education | | | | | | | | |
• | Develop, coordinate, administer, facilitate, conduct & evaluate nursing orientation programs, including residency programs. | • | Assist in the development and evaluation of preceptors. | • | Assist in the development of unit/service plans for orientation of new nurses, experienced nurse clinicians and other health care personnel. | • | Participate in the identification of essential nursing competencies. | • | Develop and implement educational programs to assess and maintain identified nursing competencies. | • | Develop and implement educational programs designed to augment the knowledge, skills and ability of the nursing profession and other healthcare personnel. | • | Assist in the development of instructors to plan, develop and present continuing education content/programs. | • | Evaluate the outcomes of educational programs. | • | Maintain current knowledge of clinical and professional practice trends. | • | Participate in the development and translation of nursing policy into nursing practice. | • | Develops and maintains partnerships with faculty and students. | • | Uses the best available evidence to guide practice decisions. | • | Creates a supportive environment for nursing research, scientific inquiry, quality improvement and evidence-based practice. | • | Supports research activities that align with the organizational strategic plan. | • | Participates in research activities at various levels appropriate to the NPD practitioner’s education and role. | • | Disseminates research findings through educational programs, courses and other activities. | • | Collaborate with unit, divisional and organizational committees, councils and programs. | • | Serve as a resource to nurse clinicians and other health care personnel involved in quality performance and regulatory initiatives. | • | Share and evaluate clinical/educational knowledge to project teams as needed. | • | Serve as a resource to individuals, groups and organizations to identify issues and trends in nursing practice and professional development, profession of nursing and healthcare. |
