JOB SUMMARY

Develops and coordinates activities and infection control measures which prevent and control the spread of infectious diseases throughout the Health System.  Educates staff and provides ongoing orientation programs relating to infection control and disease prevention.  Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and educational experiences in support of departmental philosophy and objectives, as well as Health System initiatives.

 

 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES


Develops, recommends, coordinates and monitors Infection Control measures and activities that prevent and control the spread of infectious diseases to patients and staff within the Health System.

 

Conducts ongoing monitoring of patient and non-patient services identifying, documenting and evaluating the incidence of infection and/or problems. (Surveillance). Analyze finding and reports trends to appropriate committees and medical staff.

 

Maintains technical expertise and functions as a resource, collaborating and effectively communicating Infection Control issues with Employee Health Services, Medical staff, Nursing and other health professionals to improve patient care.

 

Uses a variety of resources (such as A.P.I.C.) development of knowledge, skills and problem solving abilities.

 

Participates in a variety of special projects and Infection Control committees as required.

 

Reports communicable disease as required and works collaboratively with state and local health departments. Oversees infection control related aspects of care in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and compliance efforts. This includes participation in product standardization and construction/renovation projects.

 

Develops and conducts orientation and educational programs that ensure the prevention and control of infectious diseases.
