Maintains 24-hour accountability for unit operations. Supervises and coordinates the care, processing and provision of surgical instrumentation throughout the Health System. Maintains appropriate inventories of surgical instruments and special orders. Coordinates SSA services for optimal efficiency in the OR and SSA. Also supervises the Surgical Purchasing staff and coordinates services with Materials Management department. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and educational experiences in support of departmental and divisional nursing philosophy and objectives, as well as Health System initiatives. Develops and oversees Unit budget, ensuring quality services and cost effectiveness and supports the Operating Room in identifying potential savings and supply replacements on a continuous basis. This position has responsibility for both the SAHS and SAMBC SSa & Surgical Purchasing. Also hs the oversight of all level disinfection and serilization for SAHS, SAMBC & SAMG. | | | | | | | | |
• | Oversees daily operations for the decontamination and processing of all surgical instrumentation and other equipment, maintaining and controlling costs associated within established budgetary parameters. Supervises surgical specialty staff including overseeing daily work assignments, developing staff schedule, coordinating new employee orientation and implementing a performance improvement system. | • | In collaboration with OR Nurse Manager establishes unit goals, programs and objectives that support hospital goals, values and mission and support future surgical materials needs. | • | Assures availability, maintenance and quality of instrumentation arranging necessary repairs, restoration and replacement of equipment and directing purchase orders through appropriate channels. | • | Works collaboratively with Surgery department to coordinate and communicate any schedule changes or special instrument needs to ensure efficient operational flow. | • | Provides back up for Surgery Computer Specialist and Surgical Materials Coordinator with respect to maintaining surgeon preference cards and case specific information and ordering or handling specialty instrumentation and supplies. | • | Utilizes clinical expertise and awareness of current issues and advances in instrument processing. To coordinate, develop, implement and evaluate educational programs to meet identified departmental needs. | • | Coordinates and maintains system for ensuring and entering correct charging of surgical supplies. Works with OR team leaders to assist with continual updating of instrument lists and preference cards. |
