JOB SUMMARY

The RN - Radiology Modality Procedures is a Registered Nurse that possesses clinical knowledge in the care of inpatient and/or outpatient patients as well as skilled knowledge in their area of expertise.  The RN uses clinical knowledge to collect data systematically and continuously in collaboration with multidisciplinary members of the care team to provide therapeutic care with the patient and/or family.

 

The RN - Radiology Modality Procedures coordinates the needs of patients in their assigned area of expertise. The position has daily management responsibility for patient care including teaching patients, families and applicable staff about procedures, screening patients for risk factors prior to invasive procedures, ensuring that pre-procedure requirements have been met, following up after procedures and communicating results as necessary, scheduling follow-up care as needed and maintaining documentation as necessary.  This position assists in coordinating all modalities needed to provide comprehensive care of the patient.

 

The RN has a strong knowledge base and is competent to care for a diverse population of patients and families. They are responsible to practice within their level of competence for the safe delivery of patient and family care, are expected to keep current with changes in practice as well as have a working knowledge of equipment used with patients.

 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES


Integrates the principles and philosophy of the professional nursing care delivery system into place.

 

Serves as a role model to other nursing personnel by demonstrating effective direct patient care, leadership and professional behavior.

 

Coordinates care with other care providers to fulfill requests and patient care needs.

 

Provides nursing care and patient education with patients/families, assuring continuity of care.

 

Serves as a liaison with medical staff to identify issues of mutual concern and solve problems.

 

Enforces adherence to organization, hospital, and department policies and procedures.

 

Screens patients, as required, for procedure consults for risk factors for the procedure.

 

Explains procedures to patients and family members and verifies consent.

 

Follows up with patient’s post-procedure in line with department practices.

 

Identifies learning needs and educates patients, families and staff about post-procedure care and follow-up.

 

Serves as the liaison with others involved in the patients care (technologists, procedure team, etc).

 

Establishes and maintains documentation and data as necessary based on patient population and care provided.

 

Integrates nursing interventions into the multidisciplinary plan of care, incorporating appropriate standards of care and practice and patient outcomes.

 

Sets priorities adapting to changing patient and facility/department situations. As data indicates urgent and/or emergent risk to patient, initiates action to reduce or correct risk.

 

Assumes responsibility and accountability for effectively managing nursing care of individual patients as a team member.

 

Documents the nursing process to reflect a comprehensive and integrated approach to patient care.

 

Evaluates patient’s responses to care based on effectiveness of nursing interventions/actions in relationship to established outcomes and consults others regarding clinical variances and recommended changes to the plan of care.

 

Transport of patients requiring monitoring during transport and procedure.

 

Schedules, coordinates, and/or circulates procedures as applicable to department operations in respective service line. As a circulator, maintains required knowledge of minimal to moderate sedation and basic understanding of general anesthesia.

 

As appliable to department operations, maintains competency to administer moderate sedation and monitor patient during and after procedure.

 

Serves as a role model, demonstrating effective patient care, leadership and professional behavior.

 

Acts as a consultant and/or clinical resource to staff through provision of patient care and coordination of care.

 

Coordinates medical and nursing management of patient care.

 

Supports patient advocacy and the patient’s Bill of Rights.

 

Develops, maintains, and evaluates patient care standards in collaboration with applicable care team and other organizational leaders.

 

Promotes a department-based improvement program that incorporates patient care standards and meets The Joint Commission (TJC) guidelines.

 

Serves as a resource to staff in other departments and to referral sources regarding procedures.

 

Interprets and supports the philosophy, objectives, policies and procedures which guide personnel, patients and the public.

 

Participates in patient, family, and staff teaching.

 

Meets personal continuing education requirements.

 

Develops appropriate written patient education materials.

 

As applicable, supports and/or participates in research programs approved by UW Health and the University.

 

Promotes open and effective communication among staff, the medical faculty, and other departments.

 

Is responsible for a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

 

Develops and implements an ongoing process for problem-solving.

 

Using the process improvement tools, proactively identifies quality and safety issues, facilitates data collection, participates in ongoing process improvement projects and implements solutions and workflows to resolve the issues.
