JOB SUMMARY

The Dermatology Supervisor provides supervision of Dermatology Medical Assistants (MA).  The supervisor will be highly engaged in practice standardization across all Dermatology and Mohs sites. This role is responsible for ensuring the effective operation of the day to day activities of the Medical Assistant staff in the clinic, including planning, organizing, scheduling, training, and staff development. This role is responsible to ensure MA clinical competencies are met at the highest quality. The Supervisor will be a clinical role model displaying competency in all MA patient care clinical procedures and responsibilities.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES


Supervise the daily operations of Medical Assistant staff and others as requested: direct, train, and coordinate staff, review employee performance, and apply UW Health work standards to daily operations.

 

Serve as an escalation point for patient issues and questions.

 

Recommend and implement guidelines and workflows for the department, focusing on continuous process improvement, waste elimination, and supervising MA standard work to ensure adherence to organizational and regulatory audits (handwashing, temperature monitoring, supply outdates etc).

 

Establish consistent MA clinic workflows across all department clinics.

 

Oversee the education of staff, including new employee orientation, competency assessments, and ongoing education programs across all areas of responsibility. Identify focus areas for competency assessments. Provide training opportunities addressing areas highlighted by these assessments.

 

Monitor policy and procedure updates to identify updates that are applicable to team members. Apprise staff of applicable changes.

 

Assure point of care testing regulatory compliance and lead the department in laser safety compliance.

 

In collaboration with Clinic Manager, assist staff in implementation of organizational, quality improvement, and regulatory changes; monitor and analyze the impact of change.

 

Participate in the hiring and onboarding of new MA staff and participate in teaching and demonstrating clinical responsibilities in conjunction with other MA staff.

 

Maintain direct patient care skills to assist in staffing as needed.

 

Collaborate and engage with Dermatology Clinic Managers to meet department goals

 

Participate in internal and UW Health meetings and work per Clinic Manager approval.
