JOB SUMMARY

The WI Sleep Supervisor works in collaboration with the Medical Director and Program Director-WI Sleep, physicians, mid-level providers, and all Wisconsin Sleep (WSLP) staff members to plan, direct, and evaluate technical staff patient care and technical support services.  The WI Sleep Supervisor has daily responsibility for the management of technical support services and all supervisory duties for all technical staff members. Other responsibilities include oversight and delegation of QA for all technical and research support functions, clinical policy development and review, research billing, and ensuring compliance with AASM standards and CMS technical regulations for an Independent Diagnostic Testing Facility (IDTF).  Also includes responsibility for maintenance of a healthy work environment and participation with the Program Director, Medical Director, and Clinical Administrative Supervisor in the development and administration of goals and objectives in the operating and capital budgets. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES


Performs all supervisory duties related to the WSLP technical staff members and reports to and works collaboratively with the Program Director-WI Sleep.

 

Oversees the development of technical staff work schedules. Reviews patient and staff schedules on a daily and weekly basis and adjusts technical staff work schedules as needed.

 

Works to identify and solve operational problems, reduce costs, improve efficiency and continually improve overall operation of the sleep lab.

 

Oversees the management of all supply and equipment inventories.

 

Carries out the recruitment, performance appraisal, discipline, and termination process for technical staff.

 

Promotes open and effective communication among staff, patients, and providers.

 

Shares responsibility for actively ensuring a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

 

Demonstrates clinical knowledge by providing patient care, as need, and/or acting as a clinical resource and mentor to staff.

 

Participates in operational and capital budget development and monitoring. Assists with the effective fiscal management of the clinics.

 

Develops and implements an ongoing process for problem-solving that includes input from all staff, management and providers.

 

Develops and implements efficient systems to enhance patient satisfaction and staff productivity. Works to identify cost effective alternatives for staffing, equipment and supplies while maintaining quality of care requirements, patient census and staffing resources.

 

Institute necessary modifications to procedures, staffing and expenses as required by new administrative strategies, CMS conditions of coverage or as reimbursement changes dictate.

 

Directs and develops leadership and management skills by mentoring and role modeling.

 

Supports medical management of patient care by physicians and mid-level providers on a daily basis.

 

Supports patient advocacy, patient rights, responsibilities and service standards.

 

Responsible for the development, maintenance, and overseeing the monitoring of all relevant technical quality indicators and standards.

 

In conjunction with the Administrative and Medical Directors, ensures QA reports are completed to ensure compliance with CMS regulations and AASM accreditation standards.

 

Promotes multi-disciplinary quality improvement program that incorporates patient care standards and meets CMS and AASM regulations.

 

Works with Biomed and outside consultants as needed to ensure appropriate maintenance and other services are performed on schedule.

 

Maintain ongoing knowledge of AASM practice standards and ensure WSLP continues to be well-aligned to receive continued accreditation.

 

Collaborates with designated physician(s) to insure the delivery of quality patient care for WSLP patients and families.

 

Implements change to improve organizational performance and patient safety.

 

Achieve UWH goals with respect to safety, service, and accessibility.

 

Provides leadership for policies, procedures, collection and analysis of date, and/or summary of findings.

 

Organizes and completes projects per timeline.

 

Ensure laboratory operational compliance with safety and infection control policies and procedures.

 

Reads, records, and addresses patient surveys, ensuring feedback drives improvement efforts.

 

Develop, organize, present, and update as necessary the Sleep Technician Orientation and Training program and continuing education needs.

 

Collaborates with the Program Director-WI Sleep and Medical Director in planning, guiding, and evaluating technical staff’s clinical skills.

 

Creates an environment to provide and support staff learning opportunities.

 

Interprets and supports the philosophy, objectives, policies and procedures which guide personnel, patients and the public.

 

Integrates new knowledge about sleep and technical support into practice.

 

Serves as a resource person to all staff as appropriate

 

Supports approved research studies and manage the financial aspects of research studies, including ensuring appropriate scheduling, billing, and payment.

 

Ensure new technical staff receive adequate and appropriate training and orientation and established technical staff members perform annual competencies, complete required testing and certification and have access to appropriate continuing education opportunities.

 

Regularly performs and documents maintenance procedures with laboratory instruments.

 

Maintains all instrumentation logs according to CMS and other applicable regulatory standards.

 

Corrects lab equipment malfunctions, including TCCO2 and End-Tidal.

 

Monitors quality of laboratory and Out of Center Sleep Testing.

 

Maintains an orderly archive of laboratory instrument documents.

 

Assist in the evaluation of new technologies for possible application and purchase.

 

Provides Leadership and Participates in Implementing Management Decisions that Affect Technical Care of WSLP practice

 

Serves on departmental committees as requested.

 

Participates in peer review of clinical practice and competency assessment of all staff.

 

Communicates on an ongoing basis with colleagues regarding specific standards of practice.

 

In conjunction with the, Clinical Administrative Supervisor, Medical Director, and Director, supports development and achievement of WSLP’s annual goals and objectives.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of direct patient care and technical support aspects in an outpatient sleep lab setting.

 

Must be knowledgeable of AASM standards and CMS technical regulations for an IDTF.
