This may include work volume and distribution, workflow evaluations and testing. This position may also include reviewing and reconciling reports, providing coding training within the Coding Department and performing research on coding issues. | | | | | | | | |
• | Assist with the day-to-day oversight of coding staff and provide feedback to supervisor on coder performance | • | Assist with monitoring coding work queues | • | Maintain updated documentation of all workflows while assisting Supervisor with maximizing efficiencies in workflows | • | Responsible for researching and answering coding questions from Coders | • | Review and reconcile missed charge reports | • | As directed by the Supervisor, participate in application testing and maintenance. | • | Contact appropriate teams regarding system charging errors or missed charges when applicable. | • | Assist with education relating to coding and charging guidelines | • | Contribute to the maintenance of UW Health’s internal coding guidelines | • | Participate in training coding staff, as needed. | • | Perform line level coding as needed or requested by Supervisor up to 50% of working time. Including but not limited to: -Review information available in the electronic medical record and/or paper record to accurately code the episode of care in multiple specialty areas, including inpatient and outpatient settings. -Communicate directly with physician and non-physician providers to resolve conflicting provider documentation to establish cause and effect relationships between conditions and further specify diagnoses and procedures documented within the medical record. -Resolve payer denials and respond to inquiries from revenue cycle teams, processing charge corrections as appropriate. -Maintain an understanding and apply knowledge of National Correct Coding Initiatives (NCCI), Local Coverage Documents and National Coverage Documents (LCD/NCD) directives, Medically Unlikely Edits (MUEs), and Medicare Teaching Physician Guidelines, applying knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements and institutional guidelines to select appropriate codes and modifiers. -Actively participate in and maintain coding quality and productivity processes |
