JOB INFORMATION | Effective Date: | 6/23/2026 | Entity: | Wisconsin | Job Code: | 412002 | Job Title: | Environmental Services Supvr | FLSA Exemption Status: | Exempt | Management Level: | Supervisor/Program Manager | JOB SUMMARY | | | The Environmental Services Supervisor is responsible for the direct supervision of Environmental Services Technicians, Environmental Services Floor Care Technicians, Environmental Services Seniors and Maintenance Technicians doing comparable work within various UW Health locations. The Environmental Services Supervisor is accountable for directing, assigning and evaluating the Technicians across the enterprise through adherence of department and UW Health policies. The position reports to a shift Manager but has direct responsibility for the environmental service activities provided in their area of accountability. The role manages and trains Technicians to new or changing infection control cleaning protocols. Supervisors have frequent interactions on a regular basis with patients, nurse managers, nursing coordinators, engineering, safety, infection control and sustainability. | | | | | | | | |
• | Plans daily assignments and conducts daily handoff shift briefings to manage Environmental Services operations. | • | Directs and assigns the work to be completed by the Environmental Services Technicians, Environmental Services Floor Care Technicians and Environmental Services Seniors and documents completion through daily productivity reports. | • | Role model service excellence in all interactions with internal and external customers. | • | Conducts monthly inspections on Technicians to ensure infection control practices are met. | • | Meets monthly with area managers, or a designee, to ensure that areas are properly maintained. | • | Conducts monthly employee meetings/training sessions on subjects related to Environmental Services and maintains records documenting such training. | • | Completes probationary/quarterly/annual evaluations on employees’ work performance. Counsel and mentor personnel on job performance. | • | Participates in the interviewing process of external candidates, internal transfers and promotional opportunities. | • | Works in conjunction with Infection Control to ensure adequate disinfection practices are implemented and enforced. | • | Must have knowledge of special policies relating to: Mad Cow, COVID, Bed Bugs, Radiation set up and tear down, NIOSH cleaning, waste stream and other regulatory agencies. | • | Performs payroll, schedules vacation and other time off for employees. | • | Performs audits related to waste stream, flushing of water in patient care spaces and descaling of ice machines. | • | Work with and maintain relationships with vendors to ensure that contracts are effectively managed, best pricing is negotiated, and service and product agreements are upheld. | • | May be asked to represent Environmental Services on hospital committees or attend meetings as assigned. | • | Work with Managers and Director on the department budget including monitoring the use of overtime and tracking supplies and equipment usage. | • | Work with Procurement Services department to purchase equipment as needed and maintain department owned equipment. This includes working with vendors to research different types of equipment to meet the needs of the department. | • | Assist new employees with onboarding activities such benefit enrollment, direct deposit set up, and tax form completion | • | Trains employees to effectively operate UW Health computer application such as email, time and attendance systems, and required training modules. Must be able to leverage the skills and abilities of each person to enable great teams. | • | Maintain and review accurate documentation of tasks completed, meeting notes, compliance requirements and any other related tasks related to the position. | • | Maintains accurate records of shift assignments, quality control issues and infection control protocols and outcomes. | • | Manage employee attendance tracking, FMLA, Work Comp, etc. | • | Maintains records of special cleaning projects, uniforms and waste manifests. | • | Ensures all employees in his/her supervision are kept current on required educations. | • | Conducts monthly employee meetings to maintain consistent departmental communication across the system. | • | Interacts with Human Resource and Payroll Departments on behalf of his/her employees’ regarding evaluation, disciplines, timecard, etc. | • | Performs laundering on OR hats, microfiber rags and curtains on a regular basis. | • | Performs trouble shooting for Tru-d machines and Oxycide dispensers. | • | Prepares and completes other managerial reports as assigned. | • | Works with a variety of different computer based programs to maintain documentation, compliance requirements, professional growth, employee development, communication and other tasks. | • | May be required to assist staff to ensure area coverage as needed to ensure patient throughput and quality. |
