JOB SUMMARY

Assists the Pharmacist in providing service to all areas of the SwedishAmerican Health System.  Performs technical duties necessary to maintain the medication distribution system and possess the capability of learning multiple software systems. Exemplary customer service skills including collaborative working relationships with patients, multi disciplinary teams, and the public. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and educational experiences in support of departmental philosophy and objectives, as well as Health System initiatives. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES


Mentor staff and new employees during orientation. Must have at least 10 years Pharmacy experience in SwedishAmerican Health System, and have completed the Mentoring class.

 

Specializes in purchasing for the pharmacy and maintaining inventory. With 720 hours experience after 2 weeks training. To assure adequate supply of medication and supplies and maintains accurate pricing.

 

Specializes in narcotic surveillance with 720 hours experience after 4 weeks training. Be capable of reading reports that may indicate over usage or dispensing irregularities for narcotics. Capable of identifying missing medication from discrepancies.

 

Prepares all sterile compounded products including hazardous medications using aseptic technique, following USP <797> guidelines. After completing 720 hours of experience following 12 weeks training, and passing all exams and PATT tests.

 


As needed, additional responsibilities reasonably within the scope of duties and physical requirements may be assigned.  ALL DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS MUST BE PERFORMED CONSISTENT WITH THE UW HEALTH PERFORMANCE STANDARDS AND RESPECT FOR PEOPLE COMMITTMENTS.

Licensed Prior to 2007 – Current licensure from the State of Illinois. Candidates without a license may work in this role for 60 days from date of license application through Illinois Department of Professional and Financial Regulation.  Those enrolled in an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy are exempt from certification requirements, but will need to obtain a “Pharmacy Technician- Student Designation” license from IDFPR.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Successful completion of annual clinical, age and job specific competencies and skill verification tools required.

 

Good interpersonal, organizational and critical decision-making skills required.

 

Proficiency and ability to use a computer and a variety of common office equipment.

 

Ability to effectively communicate and develop collaborative working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.

 

Must be able to pass a pharmacy technician evaluation test with at least a 70% score. The evaluation test is administered by the HR Department. Plus one of the following skill sets:

  1. Experience of preferably 1 year or greater at SwedishAmerican Health System or in another hospital setting.
  2. Specialized in pharmacy purchasing
    with 720 hours as a buyer completed after training.
  3. Specialized in narcotic surveillance with 720 hours completed after training.
  4. Competent in pharmacy automation including BoxPicker, Acudose or Omnicell dispensing machines, and unit dose repackaging equipment.
