JOB INFORMATION | Effective Date: | 7/30/2025 | Entity: | Illinois | Job Code: | NI-7052CL | Job Title: | NI-Clinic, Phlebotomist I | Exemption Status: | Non-Exempt | JOB SUMMARY | | | Performs phlebotomy, and selected skills including rooming patients and assisting with treatments and procedures. Follow TJC patient safety goal requirements to identify the patient accurately and appropriately. Works accurately and efficiently, utilizing the computer to obtain patient orders and collects specimens following proper protocol from all age groups (newborns to geriatric) with accuracy. Prepare patients for and performs, venous, capillary, swab collections, and EKGs. Provide post collection follow-up care instructions as needed. Perform specimen processing, create batches, and complete waived testing. Perform and document refrigerator temperatures and QC on waived testing instruments or kits. Record if corrective action is required when completing QC. | | | | | | | | |
• | Explains specimen collection procedures to patients and performs selected duties which may include Venipuncture and capillary puncture, selected specimen collection and testing, EKG’s utilizing proper technique and following department protocols. | • | Proper collection preparation labeling and transportation of specimens per department and infection prevention procedures. | • | Maintains required department logs including but not limited to refrigerator, eye wash station, draw chair and all lab quality control logs. | • | Assists in department orientation and training of new staff. | • | Monitors and maintains adequate clinical and office supplies and equipment maintaining a neat, clean and appropriately stocked environment. | • | Utilizes Health Link to retrieve, release, result and batch specimens. Cleans and disinfects all work areas and equipment according to established department guidelines | • | Performs general clerical and clinical duties for department. This includes, rooming of patients, reconciling medications, assisting with patients and procedures and clerical duties. | • | Float Dept Only – Employees will float to various departments/clinic and daily schedules are subject to change based on business needs. |
