The aim of this position is to increase the number of living kidney and liver donors by educating community members on the possibility and benefits of living donation. The primary method of achieving this aim is by increasing humanitarian/family voucher donor inquiries as well as increasing number of registrations to the new DLA Living Donor Registration, WI. Other key responsibilities include the development and implementation of marketing plans, and coordination and execution of education and outreach activities. This position will collaborate on select events and initiatives with the Community Affairs liaison within Organ Transplant and Donation (OTD) and other Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs). The Education Coordinator must possess excellent communication and customer service skills, as well as maintain a high level of professionalism. On a daily basis, the incumbent communicates with both internal and external customers, including (but not limited to): community organizations, volunteers, hospital staff, living donor candidates, transplant recipients, State of Wisconsin, agencies, local and national donation partner organizations, media, educational institutions, potential funding sources and other UW Health staff. The Living Donor Community Education Coordinator must possess pragmatic independent judgment and decision-making skills. Consultation is available as needed from the UW Transplant Outreach and Strategy team as well as Living Donor team and other UW Health resources. The Education Coordinator is privy to information that may be highly confidential and sensitive in nature and is expected to maintain professionalism, integrity, and honesty in maintaining confidentiality at all times. | | | | | | | | |
• | In collaboration with other UW Transplant Center staff, assist as needed with any or all stages of planning, development, and execution of UW Transplant Center signature events, including the annual Living Donor Recognition Event. | • | Seek out, coordinate, and provide a presence and/or presentations related to living donation including providing guidance, education, and potential presentations to programs/agencies throughout the region related to living donation. | • | Assist UW Health Transplant Center staff with educational development and presentations for referring nephrology groups and/or community groups. | • | Develop educational content for brochures, web sites, and other instructive materials, with a focus on inclusivity and ease of understanding. | • | In collaboration with UW Health Public Affairs and others as appropriate, serve as UW Health Living Donation spokesperson as requested by UW Health Public Affairs. | • | Provide written and verbal follow-up to public inquiries regarding living donation and transplantation. | • | Develop and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders | • | Maintain community development databases/electronic files to document all outreach and activities, volunteer participation, audience, materials distribution and media mentions/opportunities. Order and maintain adequate inventory of educational materials and promotional items. | • | Represent UW Transplant Center, spread living donation awareness and build relationships among various groups including referring nephrology groups, schools, service organizations, businesses, athletic teams, and UW Transplant Center-sponsored outreach events, etc. | • | Maintain familiarity with regulatory standards, assist with regulatory readiness preparation, and provide requested information for audits. | • | Assist with the development of quality indicators to be used for community outreach program performance monitoring and evaluation. | • | Remain up-to-date on current issues related to living donation, including federal protection bills, new national campaigns, and significant shifts in clinical care or processes. | • | Build partnerships with various organizations and create living donor referral opportunities. Monitor data of inquiry rates and develop living donation awareness programs and materials specifically aimed at reaching out to under-represented communities and ethnic groups throughout the region and UW service area. | • | Obtain, analyze, synthesize, and interpret industry and institutional data. | • | Participates in and/or leads continuous quality improvement initiatives. |
